Return & Refund Policy

Effective Date: 08/03/2026
Last Updated: 08/31/2026

Thank you for purchasing from Chitral Publications. We want you to be satisfied with your purchase. This Return & Refund Policy explains when returns, replacements, cancellations, and refunds may be available for physical books, digital publications, memberships, genealogy services, and other services purchased through our website.

1. General Policy

Because our products include both physical publications and digital/online-access services, return and refund eligibility depends on the type of product or service purchased.

We review refund and return requests fairly and individually, while applying the conditions described below.

Physical Books

Physical books purchased through Chitral Publications may be eligible for a return or replacement when the item is:

  • Damaged during delivery
  • Defective or materially damaged before shipment
  • The wrong book was delivered
  • Significantly different from the product ordered

Damaged Book

If your book arrives damaged, please contact us as soon as possible after delivery.

We may ask you to provide:

  • Your order number
  • Photographs of the damaged package
  • Photographs of the book
  • A description of the problem

This information helps us determine whether a replacement or refund is appropriate.

Wrong Book

If you receive a book different from the one you ordered, contact us and provide your order details. Where the error is confirmed, we may arrange a replacement or refund.

Change-of-Mind Returns

We generally do not accept returns simply because a customer has changed their mind after receiving a physical book, particularly where the book has been opened, used, marked, damaged, or otherwise altered.

Any exception is at the discretion of Chitral Publications and may depend on the condition of the returned item.

Return Condition

If a physical book is approved for return, it should generally be returned:

  • In its original condition
  • Without writing or markings
  • Without damage caused after delivery
  • With any included materials or accessories
  • With the original order information where reasonably possible

We reserve the right to refuse a return where the product has been damaged, altered, or used after delivery.

Return Shipping

If the return is required because:

  • We sent the wrong product, or
  • The product arrived damaged or defective,

we may cover reasonable return shipping costs or provide an appropriate replacement/refund arrangement.

If a return is approved for another reason, return shipping may be the customer’s responsibility.

Digital Books and Online Reading

Digital publications and online reading access are different from physical books.

Once digital content has been made available to a customer, digital purchases may generally not be refundable simply because the customer has accessed or downloaded the content.

However, if there is a genuine technical problem preventing access to a purchased digital publication, please contact us.

We will first attempt to resolve the access problem.

Depending on the circumstances, we may provide:

  • Corrected access
  • Replacement access
  • Additional technical assistance
  • Another appropriate remedy
  • A refund where a suitable resolution cannot be provided

Membership Purchases

Membership provides access to eligible Chitral Publications digital and online-reading content according to the membership terms displayed at the time of purchase.

Because membership access may begin immediately after payment, membership purchases may generally become non-refundable once access has been activated or used, except where required by applicable law or where Chitral Publications determines that a refund is appropriate.

If you experience a problem with your membership access, contact us before requesting a refund. We will attempt to resolve the problem.

Duplicate Membership Purchases

If you accidentally purchase the same membership more than once, please contact us as soon as possible.

Where a duplicate transaction can be confirmed and the additional membership has not been materially used, we may review the transaction for a possible refund.

Genealogy Verification Services

Genealogy verification is a research and professional service.

Once research work has begun, fees may generally become non-refundable, because time and resources may already have been committed to:

  • Research
  • Document examination
  • Historical verification
  • Source comparison
  • Lineage analysis
  • Report preparation

If you submit a genealogy for verification and payment is subsequently requested, the applicable payment requirement will be communicated before the relevant paid verification work proceeds.

If you believe you were charged incorrectly, contact us with your case or payment details.

Genealogy Publishing Services

Genealogy submissions made for publication may involve:

  • Administrative review
  • Verification
  • Editorial preparation
  • Historical research
  • Publication preparation

If a paid service is involved, refund eligibility will depend on the stage of work completed.

Submitting a genealogy does not automatically guarantee publication.

Publication may depend on verification, documentation, editorial review, and other requirements.

Research, Translation & Archival Services

For custom professional services such as:

  • Historical research
  • Document authentication
  • Manuscript transcription
  • Translation
  • Paleographic transcription
  • Archival research
  • Genealogical research
  • Academic research support

refund eligibility may depend on the amount of work already completed.

Once substantial work has commenced, fees may not be refundable.

If a service cannot reasonably be completed because of circumstances within our control, we may offer an appropriate alternative, partial refund, or full refund depending on the circumstances.

Orders Not Yet Shipped

If you purchase a physical book and contact us before the order has been shipped, you may request cancellation.

Where cancellation is possible, we may cancel the order and issue a refund.

Once an order has already been shipped, it may no longer be possible to cancel it as an unshipped order. The applicable return process will then apply.

Incorrect Shipping Information

Customers are responsible for providing accurate delivery information during checkout.

If a package cannot be delivered because an incorrect or incomplete address was provided, additional shipping charges may apply for reshipment.

Refunds for undeliverable orders will be reviewed individually, particularly where the package has already been dispatched.

Lost or Delayed Shipments

If your physical book does not arrive within the expected delivery period, contact us with your order number.

We may investigate the shipment with the relevant courier or delivery provider.

Depending on the circumstances, we may arrange:

  • Replacement shipment
  • Tracking assistance
  • Another delivery solution
  • Refund where appropriate

Delivery times can vary depending on destination, courier operations, customs, weather, and other circumstances outside our direct control.

Refund Process

When a refund is approved, we will generally process it using the original payment method where technically possible.

The time required for the refunded amount to appear in your account may depend on the payment provider, bank, or card issuer.

Chitral Publications does not control the processing time of external financial institutions.

Refund Amount

Depending on the circumstances, an approved refund may include:

  • The eligible product price
  • Applicable taxes where required
  • Eligible shipping charges

Return shipping or other charges may be deducted where the customer is responsible for the return.

The exact refund amount will be communicated when the refund is approved.

Non-Refundable Situations

A refund may generally not be available where:

  • A digital book has already been accessed and the request is based only on change of mind
  • Membership access has already been activated or substantially used
  • A physical book has been damaged by the customer
  • A product has been marked, altered, or misused
  • A customer provided incorrect shipping information
  • A custom research service has already been substantially completed
  • A genealogy verification service has already involved substantial research work
  • The request does not involve a genuine product or service issue

These restrictions are subject to any rights that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.

Defective Digital Access

If you paid for online access but cannot access the content because of a technical issue, please contact us before requesting a refund.

Please provide:

  • Your name
  • Account email
  • Order number, if applicable
  • Book title
  • Description of the problem
  • Screenshot of the error, if available

We will investigate and attempt to restore your access.

Fraudulent or Unauthorized Transactions

If you believe a transaction was made without your authorization, contact us immediately.

We may investigate the transaction and request additional information necessary to verify the claim.

You should also contact your bank or payment provider where appropriate.

How to Request a Return or Refund

To request a return or refund, contact:

Chitral Publications

Email: [YOUR OFFICIAL EMAIL]

Phone/WhatsApp: [YOUR PHONE NUMBER]

Please include:

  1. Your full name
  2. Order number or service/reference number
  3. Product or service purchased
  4. Date of purchase
  5. Reason for the request
  6. Photographs or supporting evidence where applicable

For damaged or incorrect physical books, photographs are strongly recommended.

Refund Review

Every refund request may be reviewed based on:

  • Product type
  • Order status
  • Delivery status
  • Whether digital access was used
  • Membership activation
  • Service progress
  • Evidence provided
  • Applicable payment records
  • Applicable law

We will communicate the outcome of the request after review.

Exchanges and Replacements

Where appropriate, we may offer a replacement instead of a refund.

For example, if a physical book is damaged during delivery, we may replace the damaged copy with a new copy rather than issue a refund.

The availability of replacement stock may affect this option.

Promotional and Discounted Purchases

Books or services purchased through promotional offers, discounts, or special pricing remain subject to this Return & Refund Policy unless specific terms were provided with the promotion.

Where a promotional purchase is eligible for a refund, the refund will normally be based on the actual amount paid rather than the original full price.

Gift Purchases

If a physical book was purchased as a gift, the purchaser may generally be required to initiate the return or refund request because the original order and payment information are associated with the purchaser.

Any replacement or refund will be handled according to the applicable circumstances.

Exceptions

Chitral Publications may make an exception to this policy where there are exceptional circumstances.

An exception in one case does not create an obligation to make the same exception in another case.

Nothing in this policy is intended to remove or restrict any consumer rights that cannot legally be excluded.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Return & Refund Policy from time to time to reflect:

  • Changes to our products
  • Changes to our services
  • Changes to payment systems
  • Changes to delivery arrangements
  • Changes to applicable legal requirements

The Last Updated date at the top of this page will be updated when changes are made.
