Chitral Publications was established in 2019 as an independent research and publishing initiative and operates under the registered legal name Chitral Printing and Publications (SMC-Private) Limited. It focuses on preserving, documenting, researching, and publishing the history and cultural heritage of Chitral, the Hindu Kush, Gilgit, Badakhshan, Panjshir, Kunar, and Central Asia.

The organization specializes in archival research, historical document and manuscript verification, genealogy, historical photography, ethnography, historiography, and Persian-to-Urdu/English translation. Its research emphasizes primary and verifiable evidence, including government, judicial, colonial, revenue, family, manuscript, archaeological, inscriptional, and other documentary sources.

Its research record includes examination of more than 41,000 historical files and documents, translation of more than 1,000 Persian judicial and historical documents, and 100+ document verifications.
